MGR-A7
Using Kenwood’s exclusive high quality technologies - “Clear Digital Amplifier” and “Supreme”, excellent sound reproduction is achieved. With the built-in 3 microphone and the 3-way recording ability this apparatus is extremely suitable for recording text/speech, meetings and live music. If necessary an external microphone can be connected. The recorded files can be stored as WAV, WMA or MP3 files in the 2GB flash memory or onto an SD Card (SDHC Compatible). With the built in Wolfson AD/DA converter, not only recording, but also the playback of music is of the highest possible quality. The ‘Clear Digital Amplifier’ reduces noise while the Surpeme technology restores the possible loss of high frequencies. Both Technologies have been developed by Kenwood. The MGR-A7 is provided with fantastic earphones so monitoring the pre recordings or music files in high quality is possible. The portable digital audio Player/recorder can also be connected to a PC or other equipment with USB input. With the MGR-A7
you will never miss a sound!
Listening
Whilst listening to music files (as an MP3 Player) it is possible to choose from different playmodes such as normal, random, or intro play. The repeat function makes it possible to repeat 1 track, all tracks or a certain part of a track (so called A-B repeat). This is convenient when you are training to play a musical instrument or studying a foreign language. Also the playback speed can be adjusted in 5 steps including normal playback speed. This is convenient when you’d like to review a speech or meeting in a shorter time, or when you are studying a foreign language by listening more carefully to the pronunciation in a slower tempo. To search a track is very easy due to the use of tag information like Artist, Album, Track, Favorite, Genre, Year, Folder, Date Recorded. With the MGR-A7 it is possible to create a playlist without using a PC. It is even possible to make a playlist consisting of both “file transferred from PC” and “recorded file by MGR-A7”. By using the Line Output, this Player/Recorder can be connected to an amplifier or active loudspeakers. Using a Kenwood amplifier with DAP link, (D Audio in) you can also control the MGR-A7 with the amplifier remote control.
Recording
For recording, this device is equipped with a 2 GB internal flash memory. With this you can record in the highest quality (WAV, 48kHz) for over 2.5 hours. Lower Quality recording can last up to 64 hours. You can increase this capacity by inserting an SD card. The files can be easily moved from internal memory to SD card and the other way around. The MGR-A7 is SDHC compatible. The absence of moving parts results in very silent recording while the delay mode (5/10/30/60 seconds) is very convenient for setting up before the recording starts. Sync recording starts recording automatically when a sound input is detected. During a silent part the file is automatically divided. There are 3 detection level settings for MIC recording. Each recorded track will automatically get a file name by the Time stamp function. This file name is the record start time like 080410110359. Connecting the device by USB to a PC allows you to simply change the filename to your own preference. With the 3 built-in microphones, you’ve 3 different recording possibilities: Monaural recording - only the center microphone is used, which is perfect for speech. Stereo recording - the Left and Right microphones are used, which is perfect to record music. 3-way stereo recording - all built in microphones are used, with the center microphone focusing on the source to which it is pointed, while surrounding sounds are decreased. Of course the user is free to experiment with these different recording possibilties in order to get the best possible quality.
Connect
Older media can be digitized by using the line input. In this way you can make high quality recordings of any analogue source. For example a record player, cassette deck or radio. If you want to use a wider range of microphones, the MGR-A7 is also equipped with an external microphone input which –if necessary- will provide the external mike with plug in power.
Set up, adjustments
Frequently used functions are easily accessible by the controls on the front and backside of the device. In case of less commonly used functions, there is a simple menu available. The record equalizer contains 5 pre-programmed recording settings, which can be used according to specific user requirements (music, vocal, voice, noise cut, low cut 1, low cut 2). The noise cut and low cut filters can be used to reduce unwanted background noise (like an air conditioner or wind noise). The recording level can be manually or automatically adjusted. The automatic level adjustment is very convenient to record a meeting or discussion. For this you only have to activate the switch ‘MIC REC LEVEL’ on the back of the MGR-A7 to auto. It is also possible to set the level automatically to the optimum recording level. In this case, the ‘MIC REC LEVEL’ is switched to manual while in the menu you choose “Auto Level Setting.” Now the MGR-A7 will measure a peak sound and automatically set the recording level to an optimum. This function is very practical if you record live music. Of course, you are always able to set the recording level manually. In this case you have to adjust the level by checking the display, peak level indicator and monitor the recording by using an earphone.
